Grip, Loft and Lie!

Sometimes I think that we pay attention to so many other things on and off the golf course that we forget the importance of these items. If you are like me, my husband Dave purchased my irons for me as a wonderful birthday present. I have played my Callaway’s for years and never really wondered if I have the right loft or lie. I just wanted to get those babies out to the course and play!

The other day I just found out that my good friend Bobby Marson opened up a new business doing just this, then light bulb just went on! Even though I love my clubs, but do my clubs really love me back? Because they are just “off the rack” are they the right size for me? How does the loft and lie affect my swing? Those are all the questions I am going to ask Bobby when I go for my fitting. If you are in the Central Florida area, you need to go see him also. We spend so much money on clubs, balls, lessons… why not start with the one thing that makes the ball fly and see if just a small change can make a big difference.

Now let’s move on to the grip. One day this past summer I pulled out my seven wood and saw that my thumb had so nicely worn a bare spot on my grip. How did this happen and I hadn’t notice? Well, I guess I just don’t think about my grips the way I should. This is where you and the club unite! Worn grips are just the worse. I am guilty of letting my grips go longer than I should but why? Lazy, forgetful, who knows!Let’s think about this, I want to get back to a 12 handicap but I don’t do what is necessary for my clubs to cooperate. What would happen if I was out on the course, the club slipped out of my hand and hit someone? How could I explain to them, oooppss so sorry I should have regripped my clubs sooner. We all have to plan to be a better golfer. Grip, Loft and Lie is the place to start. Please call my friend Bobby at 239-825-7901 or emailpga6201@yahoo.com. Or your local golf fitter. It may change your whole game……….for the good!

Julie France Body Shapers Gains Support of TeenProm and Seventeen Magazines

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 21, 2010

Atlanta, GA – After receiving the Julie France High-Waist Boxer Shaper in summer of 2009 Linda Korman, Advertising Manager for TeenProm and SeventeenProm Magazines, has become a raving fan of the Julie France Body Shapers collection.

“Over a year ago I received my first Julie France shapewear piece; the High-Waist Boxer Shaper. Since then I have literally worn it with everything! The best day was when I was wearing a figure-hugging dress and was told ‘Honey, you can wear snug anyday!’.  I always thought my Julie France body shaper made me look smooth and slim, but now I KNOW I look good!” says Linda during a recent interview.

Now both SeventeenProm and TeenProm magazines use Julie France Body Shapers for photo shoots to make sure every dress fits perfectly. With so many styles and sizes there is a shaper for just about every body and every outfit. Including the Men’s Sculptor T-Shirt, allowing guy’s to look their best too.

With recent additions to the line such as the High-Waist Slip Shaper and High-Waist Capri, Julie France Body Shapers is earning the attention of not only the prom and bridal demographic, but also women gearing up for holiday fashions! It seems that Linda Korman is not the only fan of figure-hugging sweater dresses as retailers are noticing an increasing demand for shapewear garments that work exceptionally well under fall and winter trends. In 2010, we’re seeing the return of the popular leggings/sweater look which is perfectly paired with the High-Waist Capri Legging or Low-Rise Legging Shaper. Other trends this season include high-waisted skirts and trousers, wrap dresses, and panted rompers. Layer these fashions with a Julie France Tummy Shaper or High-Waist Boxer Shaper and you’ll look fabulous all season long.

keri golf newport totesWe’ve covered keri golf before, the line features brightly colorful cart and stand bags for women along with other golf accessories. The latest line, the ‘Newport’ accessories collection was created by designer Keri Murschell to complement the Newport collection of distinctly feminine golf bags from keri golf. The color palette includes shades of navy, white and poppy red combined with geometric prints. The nylon totes have patent leather trims and the brand’s logo on one side. The bag seems custom made for a summer afternoon: there are two large internal pockets, a cell phone compartment, a clip to keep keys easily accessible and a specific space for sunglasses. The bottom of the bag sits up on several gold-plated feet.

5 Minutes to Tee-Time

tminutes

Are you rushed to warm-up before you tee off?
Are you tired of missing the fairway with your opening drive?
Are you lacking the intial flexibility needed to swing the club?

Let’s face it, the game of golf is hard enough. It’s a proven fact that the average golfer “gives away” anywhere from 3-5 strokes in the first few holes of the golf round, not because they are bad golfers…but because they are NOT prepared to swing the club. With  5 Minutes to Tee-Time™, we are excited to introduce a safe, effective, and most importantly, a timely approach to a golf warm-up.

5 Minutes to Tee-Time™ is a series of golf specific flexibility and conditioning exercises designed to prepare your upper, middle, and lower portions of your body to immediately contribute to a fluid golf swing. Is five minutes enough time to prepare your body for the golf swing? Absolutely! It is not the amount of time you put into a golf warm-up…but the quality of the movements chosen. The manual is not intended to take the place of your exercise or conditioning program. It is designed however, to give you a realistic approach to preparing your swing from the first tee making the golf round much more enjoyable.

Most of us do not have the time to spend months in a golf conditioning class or have the luxury of stretching or hitting balls for 30-45 minutes prior to the round–just making the scheduled tee-time seems challenging enough!  5 Minutes to Tee-Time™ helps to remedy the time constraint factor.

Remember, the only difference between an average and lower handicap golfer is those wasted strokes in the beginning portion of the golf round.  Don’t be an average golfer, elevate your game today with 5 Minutes to Tee-Time™.

Here’s what you get: A professional, high quality, 5 Minutes to Tee-Time Manual with a FREE BAG TAG that depicts the entire routine in sequential, thumbnail pictures. All for only $19.95. Go to www.golfessentialsforwomen.com and order now!

Putting Secrets

putter
CONCEPT: Use a pendulum stroking motion from your shoulders.
1. Place ball in middle front part of stance.
2. Keep your eye on the ball not the putter blade as you stroke the putt.
3. Use the “reverse over lap” grip; all top tour players use this grip.
4. Keep the putter blade low on your back swing and low following through.
5. Accelerate through the ball; if you take the putter back one foot then follow through one foot.
6. Keep your left wrist moving toward the hole after striking the ball.
7. Keep your head very still while making your putting stroke.
8. Your eyes should be directly over the ball when putting.
9. Have the brand of the golf ball on line to the hole to help your direction.

Common errors:
1. Using too much wrist action in your putting motion.
2. Moving your head too much during your putting stroke.
3. Not following through toward hole after making contact with the ball.
4. Not practicing distance control on your putts.

Pre shot routine:
1. Stand behind the ball and “see the line”.
2. Take your putting stance and make one practice stroke to “feel the distance”, then stroke the ball.

“In golf like in life it is the follow through that counts!”

Plus Size Outfits For Fans of Ladies Golf

by Donna Craig

plusblackDuring this past summer, a group of fashion-conscious lady golfers were planning to attend the outdoor barbeque that would kick-off the athletic season at an all female institution in Massachusetts. Those ladies were appearing at the scheduled barbeque in their best women’s golf clothing. While deciding on what to wear to the event, a few of those same women sought plus-sized outfits of a different nature. They had plans to attend the Friends of Athletics Golf Tournament. These women appreciate the fact that golf wear can also be everyday wear, as well as for the enjoyment on the golf course.

Later in September, at a different New England college, two separate groups of women were dressing for a College Invitational, an event that would initiate the golf season for the 2009-10 school year. The participants on the golf team put on ladies golf clothing that offer both comfort and flexibility.

Judging from statistics on the average weight of the typical American golfer, it would seem foolish to discount the appearance at either mentioned event of at least one plus sized outfit, an outfit designed for fans of women’s golf. After all, an increasing number of women are taking up the game of golf, and doing so at a mature age with the “average” body type. That fact has not gone unnoticed by the makers of ladies golf clothes.

As collegiate and professional women golfers focus more on what their muscles can do and less on the curves in their bodies, a number of young female golfers have sought to challenge the bigger male golfers in terms of bulking up to add more distance to their games. Thus the golf world appears ready for a “Billy Jean King of golf.” This would mean more muscles and larger body frames to support the increase in athletic builds.

While the media continues to turn a spotlight on any woman who dares to take part in a modern golf tournament, society should expect to see more attention given to any ladies golf outfits that come in an extra large size. After all, a petite woman is not going to stand much chance against a group of male golfers.

What then can be predicted about the future of the petite golf outfit?

Will the manufacturers of golf clothing continue to offer a line of petite golf clothing? Will websites such as www.golfessentialsforwomen.com maintain their willingness to offer petite outfits, as well as plus size clothing? The answer to that question will be determined by the expressed interests of the shrinking minority of slender-built women.

If these athletic women continue to be a presence on the golf course, and they offer encouragement to their daughters to take up the game of golf, then the demand for golf clothing in realistic sizes would force manufactures to meet the new demand. The designers should turn their attention to the creation of plus-size golf attire and hedge the bet to create attire for women of all shapes and sizes.
